SPCE was established by Kulapati Dr. K. M. Munshi under the management of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. It began with undergraduate programs in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. In 1988, the college introduced its first postgraduate course in Civil Engineering with Structural Engineering specialization. Over the years, SPCE has expanded its academic offerings and infrastructure, becoming one of the premier engineering colleges in Mumbai. The college was granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in June 2010.
